Thomas Hoepker

Thomas Hoepker is an acclaimed German photographer who has taken many famous pictures including one of the most controversial photos to be taken during the the deconstruction of the twin towers, he is also a long time member of Magnum Photos.

Born in 1936 Thomas first started taking pictures at the age of 16 and after his Grandfather gave him his first camera (an old 9x12 glass plate camera) he decided that he wanted to perssue a career in photography. In 1960 he started working for Munchner Illustrietre and Kristall which he did for 3 years. After that he joined Stern Magazine as a photo-reporter in 1964.
During his time working for Magnum Photos he went on to do a one of his most famous portrait collection which was of Mohammed Ali in 1966 which was such a success that they reunited for a portrait in 1997

Robert Cappa
  • War photojournalist
  • Worked for Life magazine
  • Found war romantic
  • Was the only journalist to go along with the first wave of troops on D-Day
  • After the war he took pictures on the set of Alfred Hitchcock's film "Notorious"
Tony Vaccaro
  • Soldier/Photographer
  • Took pictures during World War 2
  • Used Speed Graphic and Argus C3
  • Did not find war romantic like Cappa did
  • Could get better pictures than Cappa
  • Risked his life to get pictures
  • Developed his pictures on the battlefield by using soldier's helmets
  • After the war he took pictures of the rebuilding of Germany
Roger Fenton
  • Took the famous picture " The Valley Of The Shadow Of Death"


Eddie Adams
  • Took one of the most famous pictures during the Vietnam war of someone being executed called "The Execution"
  • The photo was taken when the bullet hit the mans head
  • Eddie did not know the man was going to be shot and thought he was only going to be threatened
  • "The Execution changed America's perspective on the Vietnam war
